On 29 April 2026, the Vittorio Occorsio Foundation, as part of its long-standing partnership with the Scuola di Perfezionamento per le Forze di Polizia (SFP) organized an in-depth seminar for the trainees of the the 41st Advanced Training Course, representatives from other police training schools in Rome and external guests, focusing on “Investigations and evidence in the digital world”.
This event, aimed at fostering dialogue between institutions, the judiciary and the police forces on the investigative and legal aspects of digital evidence, was opened by the welcoming remarks from the SFP Director, National Police Dirigente Generale Vincenzo Modeo, and an introduction by Professor Carmela Decaro, Secretary-General of the Foundation.
During the first session, Mr. Riccardo Croce (National Police Vicequestore and Director of the CNAIPIC) delivered his lecture dealing with the collection of digital evidence; Mrs. Simona Ragazzi (Judge at the Office of the Case Law and Case Register of the Court of Cassation) delivered her lecture dealing with electronic evidence in criminal proceedings; Mrs. Silvia Signorato (Associate Professor at the University of Padua) delivered her lecture dealing with technological developments and fundamental rights; and Mr. Michele Socco (European Commission – DG Home) delivered his lecture dealing with the European framework for access to data.
The second afternoon session, on the other hand, was devoted to a practical workshop on cybercrime cases, featuring a step-by-step analysis of two ransomware cases handled by the Milan Judicial Authority; Mrs. Barbara Benzi (Deputy Public
Prosecutor at the Milan Public Prosecutor’s Office – Cybercrime and International Affairs Unit) and Mr. Alfio Fichera (National Police Ispettore Superiore and Seconded National Expert at Europol EC3) delivered their lectures dealing with the subject of gathering evidence abroad and international cooperation. Then, the concluding debate was held.
