The European Union Agency was created in 2000 pursuant to Decision 2000/820/JHA of the Council, and in 2005 it was transformed into a European Union Agency (Decision 2005/681/JHA), taking the acronym of CEPOL (Collège Européen de Police).
Since 1 July 2016, the date of its new legal mandate (UE Regulation 015/2219 of the European Parliamen and the Council of 25 November 2015), CEPOL’s official name has become “The European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Training”.
CEPOL is an Agency of the European Union dedicated to develop, implement and coordinate training for Law Enforcement Officials.
CEPOL’s headquarters are located in Budapest, Hungary, and it brings together a network of 26 national units and organizes teaching activities within a network of 67 training institutes and universities from EU Member States.
