Rome, 14 – 16 May 2025 – The fourth edition of the European course dedicated to cybersecurity, promoted in collaboration with the European Security and Defence College (ESDC), was held in Rome at the Scuola di Perfezionamento per le Forze di Polizia. The initiative is part of the Cyber ETEE (Education Training Exercise and Evaluation) platform and brought together representatives from EU Member States, European institutions and agencies.
While offering new economic and social opportunities, Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) have in fact introduced new cyber threats that are often carried out by national and non-national actors. To counter these challenges, the European Union has developed a robust policy and regulatory framework, focusing on awareness-raising, common standards and technical capacity strengthening.
The aim of the course was to provide participants with an in-depth understanding of the pillars of the EU Strategy for Cybersecurity in the Digital Decade, through the creation of a forum for discussion between trainees and institutional representatives with a focus on the most recent strategic and operational developments in this area.
The course opened with greetings to all participants from the Director of the Scuola di Perfezionamento per le Forze di Polizia, Maurizio Vallone, who emphasised the importance of international cooperation in strengthening digital security.
Among the guests of honour were Stefano Gambacurta, Deputy Director General of Public Security for coordination and planning activities, and Marcello Albergoni, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Agenzia per la Cybersicurezza Nazionale (ACN), who stressed the key role of cyber protection in global challenges.
The introductory day also featured a speech by Mr. Zuffanti, ESDC’s Coordinator for Cyber Issues and Cyber ETEE Platform, who welcomed the participants and introduced the objectives of the course, emphasising the importance of developing a common cyber security strategy at European and international level.
