Interview to the  President of the National Anti-Corruption Authority (ANAC according to the Italian acronym) Mr. Giuseppe Busia

This morning, in the framework of the training activities of the  XXXIX Advanced Training Course, the  Scuola di Perfezionamento welcomed Mr. Giuseppe Busia, President of the National Anti-Corruption Authority.

The President of ANAC, who was interviewed by the Director of the Scuola, Maurizio Vallone, focused his attention on the dangers for the single individual and for the whole society caused by the use of new technologies which  allow the “lords of the internet” to monitor people’s habits and needs in order to provide personalized commercial products, but that can also be used to influence  opinions and address people’s   needs.

The President of ANAC illustrated also the national and international tools used to counter corruption in the Public Administration and stressed the necessity to go on using technologies which allow to monitor all public procurements, thus facilitating  the bidding activities of the less complex public administrations and offering immediate feedback on ongoing procedures. In this way, it is possible to increase  controls but also synergies between public administrations in the search for common, more efficient and less expensive  procedures.

In addition, Mr. Busia addressed the issue of business ethics that must support the ethics of the public employee and the need to reward, in the awarding of contracts, “ethical” companies which  offer guarantees of equal opportunities, the use of environmentally sustainable materials and attention to environmental problems, safety at work and the promotion of youth employment.

Also the introduction of whisteblowing, which is an essential tool of business compliance, provided a considerable contribution to the fight against corruption, giving the opportunity to report, in a confidential and protected manner, any detected wrongdoing.

As usual, this interview aroused a lot of  interest from the trainees, who thanked Mr. Busia for his helpfulness and qualified lecture.
