On 2 December 2024, at the Scuola di Perfezionamento per le Forze di Polizia, the Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (known as MAECI by its Italian acronym), Maria Tripodi, spoke to the Advanced Training Course attendees. The meeting was introduced by the Director of the Institute, Maurizio Vallone. During her extensive speech, the Undersecretary illustrated MAECI’s main strategic activities in the field of the so-called “legal security diplomacy “.
During the presentation, the Undersecretary stressed that the Italian model is recognized at an international level as one of the most advanced in the fight against cross-border organised crime. This model is widely appreciated by the various institutional actors and international bodies, especially in the fight against illicit trafficking, international money laundering and corruption, and the criminal influence on public procurement.
The Italian approach, which could be described as holistic, follows four main lines, i.e. capacity building, institutions building, law enforcement and best practices. These elements are characterised by MAECI’s approach that integrates technical, value-based and institutional aspects.
Finally, Undersecretary Tripodi presented MAECI’s main projects aimed at training foreign police forces through international partnership programmes so as to strengthen global cooperation in the fight against transnational crime.
