On 4 September 2026, a meeting of the Committee for the Analysis of Immigration and Border Security (CAISF) was held at the SFP. It represented an important forum for interagency dialogue focused on the issue of immigration in Europe and the situation at the external borders.
The meeting underlined, once again, the strategic importance of the Committee, which for nearly two decades has served as a fundamental pillar in the institutional framework of national security under the aegis of the Ministry of the Interior.
It was established in 2007 within the Department of Public Security—following the European model of the CSIFA, created in 1999, and the national experience of the CASA, created in 2004. The CAISF serves as a permanent forum tasked with integrating intelligence data, geopolitical analyses and border operations to support the decisions of the National Public Security Authority.
Thanks to a highly collaborative structure that brings together the Department of Public Security, the Central Directorate of Immigration and Border Police, the Carabinieri Corps, the Guardia di Finanza Corps, the intelligence services and the Penitentiary Police, the Committee plays a crucial role in assessing the risks of irregular immigration as well as in the constant monitoring of maritime, land, and air routes.
CAISF’s analytical and technical overview work thus serves as an indispensable hub for timely prevention activity, capable of guiding complex decisions—such as the management of Schengen border crossings—while constantly balancing the protection of border sovereignty and internal security in compliance with international obligations.
